Turmeric Latte

Turmeric latte – a little fancier name to our very own haldi doodh. No matter what you call it, it does its job efficiently.

This is not my recipe but I do not know whom to attribute it to either. I came across this recipe in an old newspaper that I was sorting a couple of months ago. Don’t even remember the name of the newspaper as we subscribe to  three different newspapers. I simply clicked a picture of the portion containing the recipe and it has been there on my phone for reference.

So if anyone knows whose recipe this is please do let me know.

Here goes the recipe of this magic milk.

2 cups

Milk infused with turmeric and spices. Excellent for a bad throat and a good night cap too.

Ingredients

  • Milk (full fat) - 1 cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Dry ginger powder - 1 tsp
  • Freshly crushed pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • Nutmeg powder - a pinch
  • Cinnamon powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Ghee - 2 tsp
  • Honey - 1 tsp (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the milk and water and heat. Allow the mix to come to a boil.
  2. In a separate heavy bottom dish heat the ghee.
  3. Add the turmeric powder and stir. Take the dish off the flame.
  4. Immediately add all the other spices (dry ginger, nutmeg, pepper and cinnamon).
  5. Stir continuously for a couple of seconds not allowing the spices to burn.
  6. Add the boiling milk to the spices, mix well and return to the flame.
  7. Give the milk one last boil and stir well.
  8. The milk will have turned a rich yellow colour.
  9. If you wish you can add a teaspoon of honey.
  10. Strain the milk in two cups and enjoy a hot and soothing drink.
  11. You need not necessarily wait to have a bad throat to enjoy this turmeric latte. It also serves as a good night cap.
